Starting My Next Game: Mushroom Mischief! 🍄🐿️ | Devlog Ep. 1
Hey guys, it’s FromQCWithGameDev coming at you slightly caffeinated and dangerously full of ideas! I’ve got a fresh new game concept brewing in my brain, and I figured — why not just… go for it? So strap in, because something is definitely happening.
I’ve decided I’m going to try this new thing where I stop overthinking every possible design choice and just… take a few things I like, mash them together, and call it a game. That’s game design, right? Right?? (please say yes).
Anyway, the main inspirations for this little experiment are: 1️⃣ The Untitled Goose Game — because there is just something so powerful about being a small, adorable menace. It’s like, you’re a goose, and yet you wield the chaos of a thousand suns. I love that energy. And 2️⃣ Mushroom picking.
Okay, so — mushroom picking. If you’re not familiar, it’s this super charming pastime where people head out into the forest with baskets and beers, and just… look for mushrooms. That’s it. That’s the game. And honestly? It’s kind of beautiful. I’ve only recently been introduced to it, but there’s something so cozy and meditative about it. Like, you’re wandering through damp forests, surrounded by trees and the smell of moss, and every so often — boom! — you find a mushroom, and it’s like winning the lottery (but much tastier).
So I thought, “what if I combined these two things?” You’re one of nature’s cute little critters — maybe a squirrel, maybe something even smaller — and you’re just way too fierce for your size. Like, chihuahua-versus-cruise-ship energy. You’re out in the forest, probably up to no good, while humans are trying to enjoy their peaceful mushroom picking. Mischief ensues. Hence: Mushroom Mischief!
Now, I’m not entirely sure where this is going yet — which is both exciting and mildly terrifying — but here’s my current plan (I use that word loosely):
1️⃣ Define the core features and setting for a basic prototype. 2️⃣ Build said prototype without crying (too much). 3️⃣ Improve it, tweak it, break it, fix it. 4️⃣ Talk about random stuff in between because, well, it’s me. 5️⃣ Eventually finish the project… probably.
I’m keeping things super flexible this time. I’m not putting a strict timeline on it, because I want this to be fun — not a self-imposed crunch session. And since I’m not an artist, I’ll be raiding the Unity Asset Store like it’s a digital thrift shop, grabbing whatever I can find for free. (I’ll share the links, don’t worry. Sharing is caring.)
So yeah, that’s the start of Mushroom Mischief! It’s a little silly, a little cozy, and probably going to feature way too many mushrooms. But I’m genuinely excited about it, and I can’t wait to share how it all comes together.
Wish me luck, and if you see a goose in the woods — run.
